Successful  managers  are  the  ones  who  anticipate  and  adjust  to  changing  circumstances  rather  than  being  passively  swept  along  or  caught  unprepared.  Employers  today  are  hiring  managers  who  can  take  unfamiliar  situations  in  stride.  Successful  managers  doing  business  in  the  twenty-first  century  will  need  to  be  able  to  adjust  to  five  overarching  sources  of  change:  globalization,  the  evolution  of  product  quality,  environmentalism,  an  ethical  reawakening,  and  the  Internet  revolution.
